Dabbling ducks primarily feed on the surface by tipping their bodies and putting their head first into the water. They use their bills to filter food and their strong webbed feet to stay balanced while grazing on land. These ducks can also spring directly into flight from the water, using their wings for quick escapes.
Mallard Duck
They can be found year-round in most of the United States. Male mallards have an iridescent green head with a bright yellow bill. Their bodies are gray, and they have curly tail feathers. Female mallards have brown feathers with an orangish bill and a black, pale face with an eye stripe. Mallards are the ancestors of most of the domestic ducks, just like the duck in Hanova.

American Black Duck
American Black ducks are found in Eastern North America. Both males and females have a dark brown body with a purplish wing patch. Males have a yellowish bill, while females have a gray one. They normally hang out with Mallards.

Wood Duck
Wood ducks can be found in wooden swamps, rivers, and ponds in the Eastern US or Pacific Northwest. Males have an iridescent green crest, vivid red eyes, and a colorful chestnut and tan body. Females are gray-brown with white speckling, with bold white teardrop eye rings. Wood ducklings are not taught, but as they grow, they have to make their way in water.

Gadwall
Gadwalls are found in most of Southern state of the US. Males have a distinctive white wing patch on the body, which makes them easy to recognize. Females have a thinner and darker bill. They sometimes steal food from other ducks.

Northern Pintail
Northern Pintails can be found in Northern prairies, Arctic tundra, Southern US in winter. Both males and females have long pointed tails. Males have brownhead with white necks. Northern Pintails migrate at night at speeds of around 48 miles per hour.

Northern Shoveler
Northern Shovelers are found in the Northern Plains and the Southern US. The big difference from other ducks is the big bill. Males have green heads, sometimes purple, and white chests. Females have a big and long orange bill, while males have a black one. They maintain bonds longer than other dabbling ducks.

American Wigeon
American Wigeon is found in the North-Western US and Canada. Both males and females have a brown body with a pale blue bill. Males have green eye stripes. Their short bills help pluck vegetation more easily.
