Diving Duck

Diving ducks use their large, strong feet to paddle deep down to the bottom of lakes or rivers. Because they spend so much time in the water, their legs are placed further back on their bodies, which makes them good at swimming but a bit inconvenient when walking on land.

Redhead

Redheads can be found in the interior of the United States. Males have a bright red head, blue bill, and a black chest. Females have brown bodies, and some of them have an eye ring. They are very social animals, staying in large flocks.

Bufflehead

Buffleheads are found in North America. Males have black and white feathers, and sometimes there are green or purple feathers on their heads. Females have cute white cheeks and are small size. They are very active, and usually are in big groups.

Ruddy Duck

Ruddy ducks can be found in prairie potholes of the US, Canada, the Southern US, and Mexico. Males have a bright blue bill, a brown body, and a stiff tail. Females are also brownish with a distinct dark line across the face. They are very aggressive towards each other and other species.

Borrow's Goldeneye

They can be found in Western North America. Males have purple black head with a little white cheek patch. Females have a brown head with a yellow, orange bill. The ducklings are mature and independent.

Red-Breasted Merganser

Red-Breasted Mergansers are found on the Northern coast and boreal lakes. Also, they are rarely found in South Korea, too. Males have a shaggy head, rusty colored chest, and a thin red bill. Females have a grayish body and a messy crest. They dive underwater 250-300 times per day.

Hooded Merganser

Hooded Mergansers can be found in wooded wetlands across the Eastern US. Males have a black and white crest that can move up and down, and have a very thin bill. Females have a brown body with a messy crest. They have an extra eyelid that helps protect the eyes from the water.

Greater Scaup

Greater Scaup can be found across the US. Males normally have an iridescent greenish head and a black chest. Females have a blue bill and often have white around the base of the bill. Sometimes, older females have the same head color and pattern as males.
